Panacea

Who are they

Panacea is an Indian restaurant offering sit down dining and takeaway food by the River Severn in Shrewsbury.

What do they offer

A comprehensive menu, the food at Panacea could easily be described as refined. The chefs at Panacea Shrewsbury really make the effort to make the food look good, where most Indian restaurants are content to let the flavours hit home. Big white plates are artistically decorated, making the food look even more attractive than it smells. As well as the usual favourites that no Indian restauranteur dares leave off the menu, they include a fair number of more unusual dishes that are well worth a try.

Why do we like them

We tend to get stuck in the same routine when it comes to eating Indian food, eating at the same places that we know and trust. If you do fancy a change and Panacea isn't your regular haunt, we'd certainly recommend you give this place a try. The food is good value, the staff are great and if you are anything like us, you'll certainly be planning a return visit.

I've been a Cafe Saffron and Third Place fan for some time, yet for some strange reason always overlooked The Panacea despite it's close proximity to the other two "Highly rated" restaurants, and so fancied a change after a few slightly disappointing evenings elsewhere I checked out their menu online and was instantly intrigued with what looked a highly original and tempting array of dishes.

Food was actually as good as it sounded, myself going for something completely different to my usual favourite naga hot curry and instead going for what I can only describe as an Indian "Hunters Chicken" called "Malai Murgh Kurma" which was a total delight, I had this with their "bullet" nan which has a really nice chilli kick so as not feel too deprived of spice having such a creamy main!

I was in a good position to check out everyone else's food as it left the kitchen too, which is always my preferred place and was really impressed with chefs creativity with presentation as well as generosity in portion sizes. This combined with a large and imaginative menu is a winning combination for me, never mind it's relatively cheaper than its neighbours makes it even more impressive

Eat out in shrewsbury all the time and we've become bored of the same curry houses that don't quite tick all the boxes. So we tried Panacea. I was a bit apprehensive as it looks a little 'plastic/chain restaurant' on first impressions, but don't let the modern approach to indian dining/decor deter you. The food was very authentic, but with modern clean presentation and most importantly tasted AMAZING. Lots of choice on the menu and so many options are a refreshing choice from the usual suspects. Attention to detail in the food is really apparent and a welcome change from the laziness some other curry houses suffer from. The service was great, prices reasonable and the staff warm & friendly. We will be back!

Tried here for takeout on its opening night - I liked that they have Quorn vegetarian choices (other indian restaurants should take note), it all tasted very good (particularly the peschwari naan) and the staff were very friendly. The downsides were that they didn't tell me the card machine wasn't working so I had to go and get cash (opening night snag though really), the Quorn massala could have done with some vegetables in it as well, the bhajis were slightly undercooked and the prices are on the high side compared to other restaurants that offer takeaways. All in all though, this place has great potential and I'd recommend it.

P.S Ideally I'd give it 3 1/2 but since I can't, I'll give it four.

Panacea has to be the best Indian restaurant I have eaten at in years. The flavours were incredible. Instead of each person being given an empty plate and an accompanying dish of horrid coloured gloop, the food was provided already plated. The sauce on my main course was chunky and quite dry, which made such a pleasant change. The service was fine (there were 12 of us so I didn't notice that much). Do go here if you possibly can.

Took my wife here for her birthday after recommendation and wasnt disappointed. Set out of restaurant very good. Menu very extensive. 7 different pots with the poppadoms. Presentation and taste of meal excellent. Approx £20 per head for couple of drinks each, starter and main. Also got complimentary baileys to finish off. Could not fault it and will return soon.

Very cleanly-presented restaurant, which follows through to the food on your plates.

Party of 5 easily seated on a Saturday evening, although initial service seemed a tad slow, with an unexpected wait for drinks.

Food was stunning. Full of flavour and fragrance, cooked to perfection. Sure it's at the top end on price, but worth that little extra.

Excellent food extremely well presented (unusual for an Indian restaurant). Service impeccable.
Interesting varied menu. Could not fault it. Shrewsbury is quite well served for Indian restaurants with Cafe Saffron an dRgird Place being amongst my favourites. Panacea, even compared with these is is a league of its own.

A clean smart restaurant, which serves great tasting food. We had great friendly service, not rushed, yet no waiting for our next course. Poppadom condiments the best in the area, at least 6 different flavoursome bowls to choose. Our mains were tasty and decent size. Yeah you pay more, but it's worth it.

This place is top notch... really good service and the food rivals Cafe Saffron easy... my only problem was their onion bhajis aren't as good as some i've had else where.... but if you fancy a change or would just like to try somewhere new, go for Panacea... you won't regret it!

Eaten here several times - the last time in a party of 28 - as always the food was extremely good and the staff very friendly.
I reckon I have eaten in most of the Indian restaurants in Shropshire over time - and this is definitely no 1
